Privacy Policy

How Scrub Prep handles information used to provide case preparation, Quiz Me, Rapid Fire, app analytics, and support.

Information We Collect

We collect only what's needed to run the app:

Account information: your email address (for email/password sign-in) or your Apple ID identifier and, if you choose to share it, your email (for Sign in with Apple).
Content you enter: case descriptions you type in, notes you add to saved cases, your Quiz Me answers, and any specialty or difficulty selections.
Content the app generates: OR Prep summaries, Quiz Me questions/feedback, and Rapid Fire questions, tied to your account so you can revisit them later.
Basic usage and diagnostic data needed to operate and support the app (e.g. which features were used, and AI usage volume for cost/reliability monitoring).

Speech and AI Processing

Case descriptions and answers you submit are sent to our backend, which uses a third-party AI provider (OpenAI) to generate case preparations, questions, and feedback. This content is processed to generate your response and is not used by us to train any AI model. Notes you add to a saved case are stored with that case and are not sent to the AI provider.

Please Don't Enter Patient Information

Scrub Prep is not designed to store protected health information (PHI). Case descriptions are screened for obvious identifiers (such as medical record numbers, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers), and a case that appears to contain them won't be prepared. Notes are checked on your device for obvious identifiers, such as specific dates, facility names, and record numbers, before they're saved, and a note that appears to contain them isn't sent. These checks only catch obvious cases, so never enter real patient information into Scrub Prep.

Subscriptions and Purchases

Subscriptions are billed and managed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment card details. Your subscription status is determined on your device via Apple's StoreKit; we do not independently track or verify it on our servers. Data Storage

Your account, saved cases (including any notes you add to them), and Quiz Me sessions are stored on our backend (hosted via Back4App/Parse Server) and transmitted using encrypted connections (HTTPS).

Data Sharing

We share information only as needed to operate the app: with OpenAI (to generate content from what you type), with Apple (for authentication and subscription processing), and with our backend hosting provider. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Data Retention

Saved cases (and their notes) and Quiz Me sessions are retained until you delete them individually or delete your account. Deleting a saved case also deletes its notes. You can delete your account at any time from the Settings screen in the app, which permanently removes your account, saved cases and their notes, Quiz Me sessions, and usage records. You can also contact us using the email below to request deletion.

Your Choices

You can edit or clear a case's notes, or delete any saved case or Quiz Me session, directly in the app at any time. You can request full account deletion, or ask questions about your data, by emailing us.

Children's Privacy

Scrub Prep is intended for medical students and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
